Experience the freedom of Via Ferrata by becoming a certified autonomous climber. Exclusively offered by Groupe Parcours Aventures, this training program—certified by the Fédération québécoise de la montagne et de l’escalade (FQME)—provides you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely navigate self-guided Via Ferrata routes. During this 3-hour training course, you’ll learn how to properly use your equipment, safely navigate a Via Ferrata, and make informed decisions throughout your adventure. Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll receive your certification, allowing you to enjoy self-guided Via Ferrata routes at participating sites—exploring at your own pace with confidence and complete autonomy.
- Wear closed-toe shoes suitable for hiking and adaptable to the season.
- Bring clothing adapted to the weather conditions. The training takes place mainly outdoors.
- Participants who require medication must keep it with them at all times during the training course.
- You must have a functional cell phone with a sufficiently charged battery for the entire duration of the activity.
- For autonomous practice, it is recommended to carry a small backpack containing at least a 1L water bottle, a first aid kit suitable for outdoor activities, and an emergency whistle.
- Long hair must be tied back.
- Avoid wearing jewelry, this can be a safety hazard. Gloves are not required but recommended. Rings must be covered.
- Ensure that all items are stored in a closed pocket or securely attached to you to prevent loss during training or on the courses.
- Please arrive 15-20 minutes before the scheduled time; tardiness will not be tolerated.
- The training includes a theoretical part as well as practical exercises on the Via Ferrata course. Active participation is required to obtain the certification.
- Upon successful completion of the training, you will receive an Autonomous Practice in Via Ferrata certification. This certification is valid for life, however active participation is required. Each operate is free to ask participants to demonstrate proper technique before embark on the course.
- The certification attests that you possess the minimum knowledge and skills required to practice Via Ferrata independently. Following safety rules, evaluating conditions, and deciding whether or not to continue a course remain your responsibility at all times.
- Training sessions are offered in small groups of a maximum of six (6) participants to ensure quality supervision and to respect the maximum ratio of one instructor per six participants.
- The training is reserved for individuals who have already completed at least one guided Via Ferrata course (Proof might be required).
- For safety reasons, participants must weigh between 88 lb (40 kg) and 264 lb (120 kg). All participants will be weighed prior to the start of the training to verify compliance with these requirements. The maximum waist circumference is 52 in (132 cm), and participants must be able to properly and safely wear the provided harness.
- The minimum height, from feet to fingertips with arms raised, is 5 ft 7 in (170 cm).
- Participants aged 15 years and under who successfully complete the training course must be accompanied on all autonomous Via Ferrata outings by a responsible adult who has also successfully completed the training and holds a valid certification.
- Participants aged 16 and 17 who successfully complete the training must undertake all autonomous Via Ferrata outings in a group of at least two certified participants who have also successfully completed the training.
- Participants aged 18 and older may undertake autonomous Via Ferrata outings alone once they have obtained their certification. However, for safety reasons, practicing with at least one other certified participant (a minimum group of two) is strongly recommended.
- This training course is not available to individuals who are pregnant.
- Activities are conducted in a variety of weather conditions. However, for safety reasons—including severe weather or other exceptional circumstances—Parcours Aventures reserves the right to suspend, postpone, or cancel the training at any time. Any postponed or cancelled training will be rescheduled solely at the discretion of Parcours Aventures and subject to operational requirements and availability.
- Parcours Aventures reserves the right to refuse or discontinue the participation of any individual whose physical condition, behavior, or abilities may compromise their own safety or the safety of other participants. In such cases, no refund will be issued.
- Participants may chose to end their participation at any time, without a refund.
- Reservations are strongly recommended to guarantee a spot.
- The actual duration of the training may vary depending on weather conditions, the number of participants, and the pace of the group.
- A minimum number of participants may be required to confirm that a training session will take place.
- Successful completion of the training is contingent upon the participant demonstrating the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills as evaluated by the instructor. Parcours Aventures and the FQME reserve the right to withhold certification from any participant who does not meet the minimum competency requirements necessary to safely practice Via Ferrata independently.
- Individual insurance from the Fédération québécoise de la montagne et de l’escalade (FQME) is mandatory to access self-guided courses. This insurance can be purchased on a daily or annual basis.
- Participants must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that may impair their judgment, coordination, or ability to safely participate in the training. Parcours Aventures reserves the right to exclude any participant whose condition may compromise their own safety or the safety of others. No refund will be issued in such cases.
Full payment is required at the time of booking.
More than 72 hours before the start of the training,, it is possible to:
- Modify or move the reservation (date or time) free of charge, subject to availability;
- Cancel the reservation and receive a 90% partial refund. A transaction fee corresponding to 10% of the total amount is non-refundable.
Less than 72 hours before the start of the training, no modifications, postponements, or refunds will be granted.
In the event of an injury or illness preventing your participation, a refund may be granted to the person concerned upon presentation of a valid medical certificate.
Parcours Aventures reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training session if the minimum number of participants required is not reached or for any other reason related to safety. In such cases, participants may choose to transfer their registration to a new available date or receive a full refund.
Participants must meet all prerequisites and eligibility requirements prior to attending the training. Any participant who does not meet the required criteria, or who arrives with equipment, a physical condition, or behavior deemed incompatible with the safe and proper conduct of the training, may be refused participation without a refund.
Participation in the training does not guarantee successful completion or certification. Certification will only be issued to participants who demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the instructor, the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely practice Via Ferrata independently.
